Bridging the Divide Between Red + Blue
CONNECTING US ALL
We all know that RED + BLUE = PURPLE. And as a nation, we are the UNITED States of America, not the Divided States of America. People are essentially the same: GOOD wherever you go. And GOOD communication helps people understand each other.
WHAT IS THE PURPLE LETTER PROJECT?
The Purple Letter project is a pen pal letter writing project based on the premise that we are ALL intrinsically UNITED. This initiative is designed to bridge the gap between the perceived RED and BLUE divide by asking our children to get to know each other. Why?
BECAUSE OUR CHILDREN CONNECT US ALL
A “DE-POLITICAL” PROJECT
This project is NOT about who anyone votes for. The truth is that in all parts of the country, people vote for different parties. But, we have allowed our stereotypes to define us – and worst of all to divide us from each other. Sure, it is part of our collective history, and it waxes and wanes at different points in time.
And, when that division is tearing us apart, it is our responsibility to remind each other of the motto we were founded upon:

HOW
CONNECT
Registered schools and/or classrooms will connect with a corresponding school and/or classroom in Red and Blue states or districts.
COMPOSE
Students compose hand-written letters about themselves and their lives. Younger kids can send pictures they draw or parents can write for them.
CORRESPOND
Teachers decide the frequency of correspondence and themes. Participating educators will receive a TPLP Rubber Stamp with which to vet letters.
OUR ROLE
When a “match” has been confirmed between two schools, we will send you a Welcome Kit with the “TPLP Rubber Stamp” and ink pad and additional writing materials. We will create a forum by which educators can share experiences and offer support via Facebook. In pursuit of making the program free to all educators and children, TPLP will seek out and help facilitate sponsorship opportunities. And, we will always be here to manage all questions participants may have.
